Free and Easy

My mental life took a hiatus starting a couple weeks ago. The timing for starting this blog amuses me, now. I wrote to my friend John (at biblicalworld) a while back, and asked him if it ever stops feeling like your underwear is showing over the internet. Then, this career crisis came, and I found myself repeatedly telling the same story to more and more strangers, waiting for someone to decide if the story meant anything to anyone other than myself (me? I don’t know. I had some really lazy grammar teachers). Maybe the blog served to prepare me for that feeling. Not enough, though, not enough.

I just could not bring myself to more self-exposure. I haven’t even been able to look at the blog. So, I’m gonna try easing back in.

Because, I really need all of you to know I bought a vintage black lace party dress for a dollar, today. Seriously. That’s the most important thing that has happened in the last few days (I originally intended the blog to have a fashion component, anyway). Well, that and a scheduled job interview. And me taking all my aggression (and lack of work) out on my mom’s back yard, to make the best mother’s day present ever. Yup, cleared a large area, built a pond, a retaining wall, and generally landscaped the hell out of that space. Greatly rewarded when she fell asleep next to the waterfall on Mother’s Day.

By the way, John’s response to my question of a few weeks ago? “The choice is either let your underwear show sometimes or just stop wearing it.” I leave the conclusions to you.

As my mind is able to return from hiatus, and the vagaries of Christianity are close enough to me to make me laugh/wonder/cringe again, I’ll continue on. I got a magazine from my seminary alma mater, which would have provided excellent material (the last one was all about "biblical manhood"--bleh), but my husband throws them away as soon as they come in to save himself the reality of listening to a conniption fit.

Here’s hoping life for you is free and easy for a bit. And, if you’re taking John’s advice, not too breezy. :D

  2. Oh, but I would love to read a rant about "biblical manhood". :)

Glad to see you back. Love the dress. Just what you need for "biblical womanhood". ;)

  3. What a bargain! Love the dress. As for the underwear thing; I've had various blogs over the years (re: addiction recovery, Christian heresy, etc.) and I still get that exposed feeling sometimes.

  4. Thanks guys! I'm so excited about the dress. Now I want a poofy slip to make it have that vintage volume. Any ideas? John--I'm looking at you!

Michelle, I admire your courage to continue to tackle such personal and powerful subjects.

John, I don't exactly rant in the next post, but it's a good start. I just need a little fodder to work up a good rant. Rain check?

D'Ma, I'm imagining you in the breezes with the biggest grin. :D
